About

Camille Bessey, age 20, is a film and history student at the University of Toronto. Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, she’s been involved with the arts her entire life. She loves to sing, dance, act and play guitar and ukulele. She’s performed on stages around South Africa including Johannesburg, Cape Town, and the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

A poet and a singer-songwriter, she’s twice been a finalist in the “Barleycorn” – a national songwriting competition in South Africa which is held annually in Cape Town. Four of her songs ("Easy," "Too Far Gone," "Distraction," and "Boxes") have received recognition in the international "Songdoor" competition.  She’s performed original songs on numerous stages in Cape Town and Durban, including at the International Blues Festival in 2018.

Grateful for the gift of storytelling through music, Camille composed her first song at 14 and hasn’t stopped since…
